The Independent Farmers' Association (UBV) Austria honoured Torsten Altmann, Editorial Director of top agrar Austria, with the “Hans Kudlich Award” at the beginning of January.

The UBV honours people who have rendered outstanding services to rural areas and agriculture in Austria with the prize named after the Austrian politician and ‘farmer liberator’ Hans Kudlich. The initiators honour Torsten Altmann for ‘his objective and yet always critical reporting.

‘I accept the award on behalf of all farmers in Austria who work with passion and dedication every day to provide food and preserve the cultural landscape,’ said Altmann in his acceptance speech. It is important to strengthen cohesion in agriculture and to stand up together for the interests of the profession.

‘We warmly congratulate Torsten Altmann on this well-deserved honour. He has been following the development of Austrian agriculture for almost 30 years and has always kept the interests of Austrian farmers in mind,’ said top agrar editors-in-chief Matthias Schulze Steinmann and Guido Höner.

Torsten Altmann has been working for top agrar and Landwirtschaftsverlag since 1990. After completing his traineeship, he initially focussed on the development of agriculture in the new federal states after reunification before moving to Austria in 1995.
