Traditional magazines and the media companies behind them have a future if they take changing customer preferences into account and develop new formats that, for example, appeal more to emotions and offer greater personalization. They will have a chance if they efficiently structure their work and production processes, if they leverage the potential of AI, and if they develop and offer complementary non-journalistic services. The diversified Landwirtschaftsverlag Group demonstrates this through its portfolio, which is built on three pillars: trade and consumer media, as well as digital services across the food value chain.

These were the key messages from the seminar hosted by the Academy of the Media Association of the Free Press (MVFP) on March 11 at Landwirtschaftsverlag in Münster. At the invitation of the MVFP, around 25 representatives from other trade and consumer publishers spent a day discussing the challenges facing the media industry, using the Landwirtschaftsverlag group as a case study. “We provided insights into the publishing group’s strategic direction, demonstrated how we integrate trade and consumer media across titles, how we are building a brand family around ‘Landlust,’ how we are using AI innovatively, and what the growth scenario looks like for our subsidiary LV digital, where we have bundled all non-journalistic offerings,” says Malte Schwerdtfeger, Managing Director of Landwirtschaftsverlag, describing the day’s discussion topics. “Finding the right pace for the necessary changes, ensuring data availability for future applications, and finding attractive formats for young readers are the three major challenges facing all media companies. The exchange made that clear once again,” adds Dr. Ludger Schulze Pals, Managing Director of Landwirtschaftsverlag. “This is exactly the kind of exchange we were hoping for—with exclusive behind-the-scenes insights and many best-practice examples,” says Carmen Platonina from the MVFP, expressing her gratitude for the input.
