Eckart von Hirschhausen in HYGGE: First and foremost, we should not focus on renunciation, but on possibilities

Hamburg/ Münster, 22 September 2021 - In the current HYGGE (No. 26/2021, currently on sale), doctor, entertainer, journalist and environmental activist Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen talks about his new book, the climate, the environment and the corona crisis. He praises Angela Merkel for her clear statements at the beginning of the pandemic. He said he would like to see the same clarity in the climate crisis. „Only then can people see the necessary measures not as a threat, but as an opportunity.“ What might such an opportunity look like? „First and foremost, we should not focus on renunciation, but on opportunities. We need positive images of the future to make a new beginning out of the climate crisis.“

For von Hirschhausen it is clear: „We will only stay healthy if the earth is also doing well.“ He has noticed „how closely our health is interwoven with the well-being of the earth.“ He says that intact and species-rich areas are needed; only from these can nature regenerate. „If the climate crisis is Mother Earth's fever, then species extinction is her dementia,“ von Hirschhausen continued. „With every living being, a very specific ancient knowledge of evolution is lost forever, a gap in the collective memory of how to survive on Earth.“

The entire interview with Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen can be read in the HYGGE issue (No. 26/2021, currently on sale).

About HYGGE

It's the simple things in life that really make you happy. The Danes know this because they have „hygge“. „Hygge“ subsumes words like cosiness, togetherness, family, friendship, home and security. „Hygge“ is a special attitude to life that the magazine „HYGGE - Vom Glück, das Leben mit anderen zu teilen“ brings to Germany and celebrates the joy of being together and the moment of simple happiness. But conscious and sustainable consumption is also close to the heart of the HYGGE editorial team. In the column „Ideas for a better world“, people are regularly presented who, with a lot of initiative, joy and perseverance, are making the world a little better, because they are working for more social justice and participation or are working with others for nature. Visually, HYGGE relies on emotional photography and modern, clear layouts. HYGGE was founded in 2017 and is published six times a year.
