on 5 May 2026 at the Saarland’s Representative Office to the Federal Government in Berlin
The Münster Agricultural Publishing Foundation invites all interested parties to the award ceremony for the 2026 Agricultural Culture Prize. The event will take place on 5 May from 5 pm at the Saarland’s Representation to the Federal Government in Berlin.
Since 2014, the Foundation has regularly awarded the LANDBAUKULTUR-PREIS to exemplary current and former agricultural buildings in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The award recognises exemplary stables, barns, granaries or residential buildings and/or outdoor facilities that are used for agricultural purposes or have an agricultural background. Both conversions and new builds are eligible for the award. These are often listed buildings and should continue to make a positive architectural impression, allow for contemporary use and enrich the surrounding cultural landscape. Environmental and climate-friendly aspects and sustainable construction should be taken into account in the choice of building materials and the execution of the work. The prize is endowed with a total of €30,000.
The patron of the competition is Federal Minister for Building, Verena Hubertz. “Rural areas form one of the foundations for the creation of new housing and new meeting places. In new builds and renovations, regional building materials and traditional construction methods are combined with modern ideas and innovative methods. This results in award-winning buildings that not only enrich the landscape but also specifically address local needs, promote local development and strengthen social cohesion. As patron, I am very happy to support this,” the Minister explained last year when the competition was launched. The best entries will be awarded the LANDBAUKULTUR-PREIS 2026 on 5 May 2026 in Berlin.
During the event, experts such as Reiner Nagel, Chairman of the Board of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, Alexander Poetzsch, President of the Association of German Architects (BDA), and Friedrich Graf zu Rantzau, a farmer and member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Council for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, will discuss the challenges of rural construction and what politicians, developers and architects can do to strengthen the building sector and building culture.
The event will be chaired by Dr Ludger Schulze Pals, Chairman of the Stiftung Landwirtschaftsverlag.
