The publishing group Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster was named “Specialist Media of the Year” by the German Specialist Press in three of eight categories as part of the B2B Media Days last week (21 May). Lebensmittel Praxis is the “Best Specialist Magazine” in the category with annual revenue of more than €2.5 million. The website profi.de leads the category “Best Website/Best App,” and the WhatsApp newsletter of DLG-Mitteilungen is the “Best Newsletter.” The success is completed by Tobias Dünnebacke, who became “Specialist Journalist of the Year” with the article “Ethno markets – migrant supermarkets are becoming more professional” (Lebensmittel Praxis 4/2025).

“We congratulate all four award winners. These awards confirm our work and our path. The Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster group is the leading media service provider along the food value chain. Our goal is to provide our readers across all media channels with first-class and independently researched information services, to advise them in the best possible way and to give them new impulses for the further development of their companies. At the same time, we offer our advertising partners and sponsors high reach with direct contact points and above-average visibility,” say Malte Schwerdtfeger and Dr. Ludger Schulze Pals, managing directors of Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster. “The award for DLG-Mitteilungen, published by Max Eyth Verlag, also underlines how well Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster and DLG work together strategically, editorially and technically, and how they become stronger together,” adds Freya von Czettritz, CEO of DLG Holding.

This is how the juries of the German Specialist Press assess the winners' work in detail:

profi.de – best website

profi.de impresses as a consistently target-group-oriented “mobile first” offering with strong user retention and clear market relevance. At the center is the KI-Profi assistant: it uses the curated content of the specialist publisher and draws on decades of test results. This creates tangible added value that intelligently combines information, orientation and decision support. The platform is strongly cross-linked across media, meaningfully integrates social media channels and creates a consistent brand experience. High acceptance, strong metrics and a clear product logic make profi.de a best-practice example for modern digital specialist media offerings.

DLG Mitteilungen – best newsletter

The WhatsApp newsletter of DLG-Mitteilungen impresses as a highly innovative, deliberately risk-taking newsletter format. It is personal, immediate and has almost no barriers to use. This is supported by the high open rate of 87 percent and click rates for individual contributions of up to 49 percent. A real added value is the personal feedback channel, which creates closeness and noticeably strengthens user loyalty. The interactive format gives readers control: those who want to can decide on a case-by-case basis which content to explore in more depth. Clarity, minimalism and compactness ensure maximum comprehensibility on the smartphone. This enables a target-group-oriented approach via the mobile device that delivers information efficiently and enables dialogue on equal terms.

Lebensmittel Praxis - best specialist magazine with more than €2.5 million in revenue

With its successful editorial and design relaunch, Lebensmittel Praxis makes a strong statement. At a very high journalistic level, the magazine impresses with great variety in format and the skilful use of stylistic devices that convey complex industry topics precisely and in an easy-to-read way. With its broad range of topics, it delivers industry knowledge that helps retailers and manufacturers stand out in everyday business. It also creates innovative ways of accessing information, for example in the "Draufsicht" section, where industry developments are explained using satellite images. The high circulation underlines its market relevance and the readers' trust. With the additional app, Lebensmittel Praxis expands its offering in a contemporary way and creates additional value beyond the print product.

Tobias Dünnebacke from Lebensmittel Praxis – specialist journalist of the year

In the article “Ethno markets – migrant supermarkets are becoming more professional,” published in issue 4/2025 of Lebensmittel Praxis, Tobias Dünnebacke examines the development of special supermarkets for people with an immigrant background. These markets are booming and fill the gap left by, for example, the former Turkish “Uncle Mehmet” stores. They are in a similar situation to the German “Tante Emma” stores, which are disappearing because they cannot find successors.

The author captures the spirit of optimism surrounding the Turkish “ethno markets” with great sensitivity and thus gives his readers a market overview that had previously been unique. The human side is never neglected. Through sensitive storytelling, readers get to know, for example, the life stories of the people behind the featured businesses. This combines great reading pleasure with exceptional insights that are worthwhile not only for insiders in the grocery retail sector.
