Hendrik Varnholt becomes the new editor-in-chief of Lebensmittel Praxis

Hendrik Varnholt will become the new Editor-in-Chief of Lebensmittel Praxis on 1 June 2024. The 41-year-old business IT specialist is currently chief reporter in the business section of WirtschaftsWoche. After his traineeship and initial experience as an editor at Kölnische Rundschau, Hendrik Varnholt was a senior reporter and team leader at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones. Before moving to WirtschaftsWoche, Varnholt wrote for Lebensmittel Zeitung. In his five years as chief reporter and head of the industry section, he gained extensive knowledge of the food industry and food retailing. „We are delighted to have Hendrik Varnholt on board. He is an excellent journalist. The range of renowned titles he has worked for to date is impressive. Hendrik Varnholt replaces Reiner Mihr, who has been Editor-in-Chief of Lebensmittel Praxis for almost 24 years. Reiner Mihr will retire on 30 April 2024 at the age of 65. The long-standing editor-in-chief was and is the face of Lebensmittel Praxis. His expertise and network are legendary. During his time in office, Reiner Mihr helped establish the successful competitions and events organised by Lebensmittel Praxis. This applies in particular to the „Supermarket of the Year“, the industry event for the food trade par excellence. „Reiner Mihr has two impressive qualities: an easy but precise style of writing and an impressive stage presence. There is hardly anyone in the food industry and food trade who does not know Reiner Mihr and vice versa. He is also characterised by his enormous industry expertise and his proximity to people in industry and trade. We would like to say thank you for almost 24 years of passion for food practice,“ says Ludger Schulze Pals, summarising a successful term of office.

With a circulation (print and digital) of over 60,000 issues (IVW IV/2023), Lebensmittel Praxis is by far the highest-circulation magazine for the food trade. The magazine is complemented by a broad digital offering (e.g. newsletter, website and social media). The editorial programme is supplemented by target group-specific events and industry awards for top performance (e.g. Supermarket of the Year, Meat, Cheese, Regional and Frozen Food Star).
